Finally, a patient advisory board for the Department of Internal Medicine that makes sense. It’s comprised of five patients (including myself), an office manager, an assistant, and someone from financial services. Our questions and concerns regarding patient care are taken seriously. During our first meeting, we focused on patients needs not being met because messages are often misconstrued. Patients that prepare a list of concerns for doctors/nurses before their appointment (scripts needed, pain, medication questions…) are more then likely more understood. I discussed helping patients use the online medical system to send doctors messages, ordering scripts, reviewing labs results and what they mean. All and all, the meeting was a success. I’m looking forward to March’s topic, “TV In The Waiting Area”. Do we feature reenactments on medical issues between patients and family members/patients and medical staff we a tad of humor? I’ll let you know the outcome.
